A whole school approach: The Schools of Sanctuary network, now active in over 52 areas of the UK, supports schools in building a whole school culture of inclusion and welcome. Their recommendations include ensuring that anti-racist practices are embedded across the curriculum and teaching about forced migration and displacement with compassion and accurate information, so that students can challenge hostile media narratives.

The International Rescue Committee's (IRC) Healing Classrooms programme offers free training and resources for teachers working with refugee children. New January 2026 guidance from educational psychologists urges UK schools to train staff in recognizing and supporting trauma in refugee and asylum-seeking children.

Teachers look at radicalisation and extremism in the UK and gain a nuanced understanding of how a vulnerable person could be drawn into extremist views. Content can be tailored to specific job roles.
