Please press the buttons below to access full report in both Welsh and English based on interviews with 42 young people between February and June 2025.

The report covers:

  • Journeys from countries of origin - Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Vietnam, Eritrea etc.

  • Initial arrival in UK and then to Wales though the National Transfer Scheme (NTS).

  • Experiences of foster care, accommodation, social care, education, health including mental health, immigration, work and integration.

  • It also includes responses to more open-ended questions such as ‘What have been the best and most challenging experiences since you came to the UK?’ and ‘What are your fears and hopes for the future?’

The report was commissioned by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Hub Wales, and Wales Strategic Migration Partnership (WSMP). A special thanks to Dr Joanne Hopkins, Programme Director, ACE, Public Health Wales, Anne Hubbard and Sabina Hussain (WSMP), the participating children and young people who generously shared their experiences, feelings and insights, and those supporting them. These powerful voices need to be heard.
