Chapter 3: Precious Cargo

Argun Imamzade who arrived from Cyprus, aged fourteen, in 1964.

Argun Imamzade arrived in London to join his mother and stepfather carrying his photograph album, including of his Ottoman ancestors, that he had hidden behind a metal cupboard when his grandfather’s house was being bombed. In the film Life is a Destiny his granddaughter suggests she would take her mobile phone if she had to leave her home in a hurry. The mobile phone, unavailable in the 1960s, is essential today for refugees to keep in contact with family and for essential information.
